Farewell to quick-flick
A farewell to 15 Years of Fun and Frivolity
I have been contemplating what to write to convey my feelings on recent quick-flick developments, for this update. You see this is no ordinary update. This is to announce the final plans for our veteran website.
We preceded GOOGLE and YOUTUBE and many other online giants. With none of their cash and even less of their traffic or contribution to mankind. But to say that we were unknown and unappreciated would be a huge understatement. Although the site has been up and down and all over the place, we were at one stage incredibly popular. Even to this day I still get correspondence and there isn’t really anything on here at the moment. We survived the dotcom crash of the late 90s, back in the days when 2mb of free space was enough to host an entire site and then some!
It is clear the online landscape has changed since we moved from information ‘My Way’ to information super highway, from sheet to screen. From those smart alec notice board novelties to worldwide wonder, we made a small dot (com?) on the internet.
We were one of the first sites to utilise broadband internet and host our own videos, which were updated regularly. Something youtubers take for granted now. Unless you were a media organisation or someone with deep pockets, good quality video was thin on the ground. Somehow we managed it. It was just a bunch of friends talking nonsense and acting the fool. What the internet was made for. Back in those days, registering a trademark was furthest from our minds and an unnecessary expense. However, as we all move on with our lives and search for the next project, it has become clear that my tired old friend is becoming a burden. With various issues restricting further development with the quick-flick name, it seems only fair to dedicate some farewell time to fun and memories from the past 15 years. Some portions of that timeframe busier on the website than others. The name will live on, we haven’t been banned from talking about the site and we are not technically being shut down. Options are simply limited.
Anyway, watch out for some archive material over the coming weeks and months. Be sure to get in touch if you have any memories you want to share. Simply visit the ‘Contact Us’ page on this site for details.
